CNY Lo Hei Gathering

Festive seasons can be especially difficult for those who are newly bereaved. In the week leading up to Chinese New Year, Wicare organised a meaningful get-together specially for our newer widows and their children, creating a safe and supportive space during what can often be an emotionally challenging period. A total of 56 mothers and children attended either one of our morning and afternoon sessions.

During the mothers’ workshop, participants were introduced to intentional play using LEGO blocks. Through guided building activities, our pro bono trainers from Rasmussen Consulting encouraged reflection and sharing in a gentle and creative way. Meanwhile, the children were engaged in lion dance craft activities and games, bringing energy and festive cheer to the day. They were supported by “big brothers” and “big sisters” – youths who themselves have journeyed through similar grief. As always, food brought everyone together.

We are deeply grateful to our member, Yvonne Chan, who generously sponsored most of the food for both sessions. She lovingly prepared several dishes herself and even baked a beautiful carrot cake! Each session concluded on a high note with a lively and festive Lo Hei.

These gatherings were a reminder that no one journeys alone — especially during the festive season.
